Most people want 'US nukes dismantled'

An opinion poll suggests that the international community should force the US to accept Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad proposal for dismantling its nukes. Nearly 53 percent of respondents to the Press TV poll held that the international community should step up pressure on the Obama administration to dismantle its nukes. Some 38 percent of the respondents said that this feat is impossible because the US would never agree to Ahmadinejad's proposal. Only seven percent believed that the US has the right to possess nukes. At the 2010 Review Conference of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) at the UN headquarters in New York, Iran's president called for the dismantling of all atomic weapons, starting with those in the possession of the US and its allies. The United Sates, despite being a signatory to the NPT, is the "main suspect" responsible for the stockpiling, spread and the threatening of other nations with nuclear weapons, the Iranian president said. "We believe that if the United States agrees to dismantle its atomic arsenal, other nuclear-armed states will follow suit," he told reporters at Mehrabad Airport upon arrival in Tehran from New York. Resistance fighters foil IOF incursion in northern Gaza

GAZA, (PIC)-- Palestinian resistance fighters foiled an attempt by the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) to infiltrate into northern Gaza at dawn Tuesday, a communiqué said.
The Mujahideen Brigades and the Nasser Salahuddin Brigades said in a joint communiqué that their fighters confronted a special IOF unit that tried to infiltrate into northern Gaza in the former Dugit settlement location.
The two groups said their fighters blasted two explosive devices in the advancing unit and engaged its members for ten minutes after which the IOF soldiers retreated, adding that casualties were inflicted in lines of the soldiers.
"The criminal enemy believed that it weakened the resistance following the ferocious war it waged on Gaza Strip," the communiqué said, adding that the war only strengthened the resistance fighters and boosted their military expertise.
The armed wings said that they would confront and repel any IOF incursion, warning the IOF of big losses in the event it ventured into Gaza.

IOF soldiers quell demonstrations in various WB areas

BETHLEHEM, (PIC)-- Israeli occupation forces (IOF) violently dispersed a peaceful march in Walaja village, Bethlehem district, on Tuesday in which Palestinian citizens and foreign activists took part.

Local sources said that the IOF soldiers severely beat participants in the march and fired teargas bombs at them.

They noted that the soldiers detained a 14-year-old boy after beating him using batons.

The sources said that Ghadir Al-Atrash suffered breathing difficulty then fainted after the soldiers sprayed gas at her face.

Meanwhile, citizens in Silwan suburb in occupied Jerusalem engaged Israeli policemen in fistfights, local sources said, noting that a big number of policemen were deployed in the suburb.

The IOF soldiers quelled another demonstration in Beit Awa, Al-Khalil district, that was organized for the second day running in protest at the IOF murder of Qassam commander Ali Al-Suweiti in the village.

The IOF troops stormed the village of Dura, south of Al-Khalil, and occupied a Palestinian home after forcing its 20 inhabitant into one room.

A local source said that the soldiers were detaining anyone passing near the house, saying that the detained persons reached 30.

The source said that the IOF troops were tightening security in the village and its surroundings fearing resistance retaliation to the assassination of Suweiti.

Hamas warns Israel over prisoners swap

Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas has warned Israeli regime the Gilad Shalit may not return to the occupied lands if the regime did not accept the prisoner exchange soon. Hamas' message to the Israeli authorities came in a 3D animation its military wing, Ezz El-Deen Al-Qassam Brigades, released on Sunday. The video showed quotations from Israeli authorities, including former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, former Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and current Premier Benjamin Netanyahu, all promising to work on freeing Shalit. The movie played bits of a previous video message from the captive soldier saying that the regime frustrated him. "There is still hope," the animation said at the end. Otherwise, the swap would be done but Shalit might not be alive then. Hamas and the Israeli regime have so far held

Obama Reluctant to Answer Questions on Israeli Nuclear Program!

U.S. President Barack Obama on Wednesday urged all countries, including Israel, to sign the international Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, or NPT. "Whether we're talking about Israel or any other country, we think that becoming part of the NPT is important," Obama said. "And that, by the way, is not a new position. That's been a consistent position of the United States government, even prior to my administration." Israel operates a policy of 'nuclear ambiguity', refusing to confirm or deny having atomic weapons - but has not signed the treaty and is believed to posses between 200 and 300 nuclear warheads. Obama, who was hosting an international conference on nuclear security in Washington, was at first reluctant to answer journalists' questions on Israel, whose prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu had at the last minute canceled plans to attend. "Initially you were talking about US behavior, and then suddenly we're talking about Israel. Let me talk about the United States," the president said. “I do think that as part of the NPT, our obligation, as the largest nuclear power in the world, is to take steps to reducing our nuclear stockpile. And that's what the START treaty was about, sending a message that we are going to meet our obligation...as far as Israel goes, I'm not going to comment on their program.” OBAMA DOWNBEAT ABOUT MIDEAST PEACE PROSPECTS Also Tuesday, Obama gave a surprisingly downbeat assessment of the chances for a U.S.-brokered peace settlement in the Middle East, saying that the United States cannot help if Israel and the Palestinians decide they cannot negotiate. The two sides may say to themselves, "We are not prepared to resolve these issues no matter how much pressure the United States brings to bear," Obama said. Obama reiterated that peace is a vital goal, but one that may be beyond reach even if we are applying all of our political capital. Obama was responding to a question about whether the successful negotiation of a new arms control treaty with Russia and the agreements he won at this week's nuclear summit could help him make gains elsewhere. His words are recognition that although he pledged to work hard for a deal from his first day in office, Obama has gotten little traction in the decades-old conflict. The United States is pushing for new Israeli-Palestinian talks in which the Obama administration would be a go-between. Previous talks broke off more than a year ago, and despite shuttle diplomacy and unusual pressure on ally Israel, the Obama administration has been unable to reach even the modest goal of new talks.
